New Smoke Alarm Laws in Queensland
Are you a property investor? As at 1st of January 2022, legislation was introduced in Queensland changing the smoke alarms laws.
The main changes are:
- Residential rental properties must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in all bedrooms, hallways and on every level;
- If you are selling a property, you must install compliant smoke alarms in the property before signing a contract; and
- If you are renting out a property or renewing a rental agreement, you must install compliant smoke alarms
These changes are significant and if you breach any of the obligations you may face hefty fines and legal penalties. Before you sign a contract to sell or buy a property, contact one of our Property Lawyers to have your contract reviewed.
